The Project
Gary Thew of Character Building Developments has carved out a well-earned, excellent reputation for himself in the city of Winchester and Hampshire as a whole, with his expertise in the development and preservation of period properties.
“Having used a number of different brands of wooden windows and doors over the years, including those from some of the best known, large scale companies, I needed to find a better product range having not been impressed with what I’d seen from them” Gary explains.
“My chosen builders merchant, Elliotts, recommended I speak with Dale Joinery as being particularly relevant for the types of projects I often work on.”
In this project, the land and property owner had purchased it in the late 1990s when sold off. Known as Provost Place in Winchester, Gary and his company were contracted by the owner to carry out works to the existing structures and construct sympathetically styled new ones.
Originally the buildings were for regimental administration use, including jail cells and vehicle servicing bays, being closely linked to the nearby church and barracks.
At Provost Place, original walls and buildings were retained for redevelopment, and new buildings added to create a series of beautifully designed homes in a courtyard setting.
Character Building Developments works primarily around Winchester, and has become well known for prestigious developments of this kind.
Sash Windows
As part of the redevelopment project, new timber sash windows in the same style and colour as the originals were specified. This ensured the new products were in keeping with the history and architecture of the property.
Entrance Doors
Stunning new entrance doors including this beautiful Lulworth door with sidelights and toplight were also specified alongside the new windows. The new front door is finished in a colour complementary to Farrow & Ball ‘Manor House Gray’ and is a perfect choice for the style and heritage of the building.
