Dale Helps Transform 1900s House into Contemporary Family Home
Dale came highly recommended
“Our developer Sean Perry of Meadowbank Developments highly recommended Dale. He had worked with them on previous projects and felt their approach and range would be right for us. The combination of styles, the fact they were made to measure and the quality along with Sean’s recommendation were enough for us and we are absolutely thrilled with the results”

The Project
When the Rooker family purchased their home 10 years ago, it was in need of modernisation and plans were developed to turn the house from a traditional two up two down into a modern living space, which made the most of the location and the space around it.
After some initial work to extend and improve the property was carried out, it was last year when owners Deborah and John decided to really turn their dreams into reality. They have now completed a total renovation that has seen the house transformed and extended from fit and functional into a beautiful, light, bright and open plan, contemporary 5 bedroom home, including the installation of Dale Windows and doors throughout, which the couple say have completely transformed the way it looks.
“The property was really quite tired when we first bought it, having been lived in by an elderly couple, and our plans had always been to extend and refurbish the property to create a family home for modern living.
“We did some initial work but last year decided to put our plan to create the home we really wanted, into place – with the creation of open plan living spaces, extra bedrooms, an extra bathroom a family room, and a new utility room. Externally, landscaping and a large patio enabled us to extend the living space outside in the summer thanks to large bi-fold doors,” said Deborah.
“One of the key areas of the development was always going to be the new windows and doors – ones that had the style and quality that we wanted to match the new build aspects of the project but also that really complemented the original parts of the house.
Along with statement pieces such as the Bi-fold doors, the Rookers had a range of Sash Windows, French doors, flush casement windows, new Bay Windows and a picture window installed, manufactured using high quality engineered Redwood timber.
“The house has been completely transformed, the quality is fantastic not just in terms of the windows and doors but also the window furniture that they come fitted with. They arrived on site ready to be fitted, which happened seamlessly and we are absolutely delighted. The bi-folds replaced traditional patio doors that we had and the difference is incredible, folding back to create a unified space between outside and in,” added Deborah.
Matt Chambers of Dale says developments such as the Rookers, where original homes are being extended to create larger, modern living spaces are becoming increasingly popular, with the combination of quality and style along with modern manufacturing techniques and standards turning people back to timber in increasing numbers.
“More people are wanting to extend their existing homes to improve what they already have by creating new, modern additions to traditional buildings – which is the case with Deborah and John’s project. The beauty of timber windows and doors is that you can enjoy flexibility, from classic and traditional to modern and contemporary styles to suit, the look, feel and particular aspect of the building.
Sash Windows
Beautiful, engineered timber sash windows, hung on a hidden spring mechanism were specified by the Rookers. Finished in the shade of ‘Pebble Grey’, with single vertical 18mm astragal glazing bars and decorative sash horns, the new windows have delighted the homeowners.
Bi-Fold Doors
Replacing traditional patio doors at the rear of the home, new timber Bi-Fold doors in the same ‘Pebble Grey’ finish as the new windows have given the Rookers more flexibility, and unified their living space, both internally and externally.
