The Project
On the high street in this picturesque Essex village, a former school has been converted into flats and new houses, courtesy of local developers, NR Powell Developments. With the building having sat vacant for a number of years, Richard Powell saw the opportunity to restore it to its former glory, while providing new, high-quality homes for aspiring buyers.
The original building was built in 1888 and is protected with a Grade II Listed status. After gaining approval from the local planning authority, this has now been converted into stylish new flats, while the old playground at the rear has now been transformed into 3 beautiful new homes, one detached and 2 semi-detached.
The 3 new properties are generously sized, with Dale timber sash windows installed throughout, with bay windows installed on the 2 semi-detached homes.
Mr & Mrs Pye now live in one of these new properties as they comment “the house is really light and airy, and the glass is the new windows is just so clear! In fact, it may be a bit too clear as we have had a couple of birds fly into them!”
Love for their new windows is a sentiment shared across the new estate as Mr May, homeowner of one of the semi-detached properties explains “I spent quite a bit of time looking at houses in neighbouring towns, but when I saw this come onto the market, I loved what I saw straight away! We bought this house for the sash windows, they’re absolutely beautiful!”
With the 3 properties now fully finished and lived in, and the redevelopment of the old school building complete, NR Powell’s tireless efforts have created a beautiful, quiet retreat for these new homes, in a highly sought-after location in the Essex countryside.
Sash Windows
Beautiful timber sash windows were the ideal solution for these new properties. Finished in ‘Signal White’, the new windows feature vertical 18mm astragal glazing bars and decorative sash horns to the upper sash.
French Doors
At the rear of the new homes, timber French doors, including variations with a single sidelight in the same colour finish as the new windows, provide easy access to a generously sized garden and ensure the rooms are flooded with natural light.
