The Project
Formerly an old house sitting on a picturesque 9-acre plot of land that had fallen into disrepair, self-builder (and now homeowner), Kevin Woodberry, has completely transformed the area into his new family home.
“Following the demolition of the original property, we took the opportunity to reposition the new house on the land into a more favourable position” Kevin explains.
Drawing up the designs for his perfect new home, and having a blank canvas to play with, Kevin designed a beautifully proportioned house which combines traditional red brick with dark cladding. Georgian sash windows, a grand entrance door in a dual colour finish, and beautiful French doors with gothic arched bars were specified from the Dale Joinery range, with timber being the most appropriate choice for a home of this grandeur and quality.
“We were going for a traditional appearance, and Dale were recommended to us by a local merchant. He said to us that Dale were the company to go to, for the traditional look and feel we were aspiring towards.”
Attention to quality and detail is a key component of Kevin’s approach and attitude, and it can be seen in every aspect throughout the home. The finish is exceptional, and you could easily be mistaken in thinking that the home is older than it is, such is the authenticity of the traditional appearance.
As a further testament to Kevin’s work and attention to detail, his project was also nominated for ‘self-build of the year’ at the illustrious LABC awards. It was a pleasure to have been involved in a project such as this, and the Dale team wish Kevin the best of luck at the awards ceremony.
Sash Windows
Beautiful, traditional timber sash windows in a dual colour finish were specified throughout the home. Finished in ‘Cream’ externally, and ‘Signal White’ internally, the windows feature traditional Georgian 18mm glazing bars, decorative sash horns, and Polished Chrome sash hardware.
Feature Entrance Door
A home of this grandeur needs an appropriate front door to complete the look, and so a ‘Hadleigh’ style door with a toplight and flag windows was the perfect fit. The door sash is finished in ‘Grey Blue’ while the frame, flag windows and toplight are given the contrasting finish of ‘Cream’ to match the sash windows across the home.
French Doors
At the rear of the house, a stunning set of French doors with a toplight were designed and installed. In the same dual colour finish as the new sash windows, the doors have a characterful, arched gothic glazing bar design, a feature which further shows Kevin’s close attention to detail throughout.
Entrance doors
To the master bedroom, which has its own private balcony, two single sets of entrance doors were specified, incorporating the same arched glazing bar pattern featured on the French doors elsewhere in the home. This ensures consistency throughout the property, and the arched formation works perfectly with the design of the room.
