Stunning Converted Barn in the Suffolk Countryside
Everyone from Dale was fantastic
“Everyone from Dale was fantastic, they helped us at every stage with the specifying and ordering, all to the conservation authority’s regulations. For example, we were told that any windows and doors would have to work with the original barn openings and permission was required from the authority to use our choice of doors and windows”.

The Project
The original barn on this farm in Suffolk has been converted and turned into living space thanks to the range of windows and doors available from Dale Joinery. The farm is home to Mrs Gladwell, who has lived here her entire life and she comments “We had wanted to convert the barn for a long time but the local conservation authority has very strict rules regarding a conversion of this type. Firstly, we had to prove that it had no commercial or community use”.
When looking for potential suppliers for new windows and doors, Mrs Gladwell explains “we managed a lot of the project ourselves whilst still working our normal jobs and spent a lot of time looking into different suppliers and products. We knew we wanted timber from the beginning as any other material wouldn’t suit the property”.
She became aware of Dale through a recommendation from her local Ridgeons builder merchant, who then put them in touch with the Dale team.
After going through this procedure with the conservation authority, Mrs Gladwell was happy to state that “everything was approved and we were delighted to move forward with Dale”.
The end result is beautiful new timber windows and doors that complement the age and architecture of the farm buildings.
“With the barn now finished, we couldn’t be happier. Dale helped us at every stage of the project and we are delighted with how the new windows and doors look!” Mrs Gladwell concludes.
Bi-Fold Doors
A stunning 4 panel set of Bi-fold doors were specified for Mrs Gladwell’s home, in a dual colour finish of ‘Signal Black’ externally and ‘Straw’ internally. The bi-fold doors have truly opened up the living space in the barn, maximising the natural light and perfectly complementing the original beams.
Entrance Door
To create a stunning entrance to her home, Mrs Gladwell opted for a timeless Pomeroy entrance door in a ‘Pale Green’ external finish. This style of door is perfectly suited to the age and architecture of the barn.
