The Project
As an experienced property developer, with a career spanning many years, when it came to finding his own forever home to buy and renovate, Mr Robertson took the time to ensure he found the right fit for him and his wife.
“We looked at numerous properties over a period of roughly 10 months, and were initially unable to find anything that really suited our aims” he explains.
“It got to a point where we thought we would need to change course, and buy somewhere that didn’t require work, when a fortunate call from our estate agent came in to say an unmodernised bungalow on a lovely plot had just become available”.
Keen to avoid a risk of missing out on this, the Robertsons visited at their first available opportunity and instantly saw the potential this plot of land gave them. “I have always wanted to design and build my own house, so this was going to be a dream come true!”
Following a (thankfully) speedy purchase process in late 2019, and with the help of an architect, planning applications were submitted and eventually granted, allowing Mr Robertson to get to work on his dream home.
“Careful consideration was taken into all aspects of the build and the materials we were going to use. We were conscious if we got any of this wrong, it would compromise the overall look of the property.”
“We have always been keen on wooden windows and doors, as it is more sustainable, and quite frankly, looks better. Following a lot of research, we shortlisted three companies (including Dale Joinery). Dale sent out a representative and some samples, and as a result, we were keen to use them. The quality of the product, its flexibility in being customised, and the reassurance we received from the company about its customer service all helped in our decision making and made Dale stand out from the other two”.
Covid ultimately delayed our project somewhat frustratingly, but thankfully we were able to move into our newly constructed home in late 2021, and we finished all the external landscaping works in Autumn 2023. All in all, this has been 4 ½ years in the works!”
“We feel so lucky to have found the most beautiful setting for our amazing home, and we are absolutely delighted with the end product, including the beautiful windows and doors from Dale!”
Entrance Door
This beautiful home deserves a beautiful front door to match, and our Framlingham style door with sidelights was the perfect solution. Finished in a colour complementary to Farrow & Ball ‘Skimming Stone’, Polished Stainless Steel hardware from Coastal complements the door perfectly, and Sandblasted glass with a clear border completes the look.
Triple Sash Windows
In the popular shade of Pebble Grey, our triple sash windows at the front of the home provide perfect sightlines, and are a testament to the designs and plans of Mr Robertson.
Sash Windows Doors
Elsewhere across the property, and in the same Pebble Grey finish, traditional slim sash windows were specified. The design of the home suited sash windows perfectly and have added to what is already a beautiful structure.
French Doors
To the rear of the property, opening on to a lovely patio area, our French doors provide easy access and a stylish look. The new doors feature 18mm glazing bars in a unique formation, adding further character to the home.
Stable Door
A true country home is not complete without a stable door, and as such, this timeless Wardour style stable door in Pebble Grey provides the perfect entrance to a new outbuilding on the plot.
